Throughout her life, Laura has found a great diversity of achievements. As a child she studied under Ross Churchill, a classical artist and teacher. Her first natural gift was capturing likeness in portraiture. When she was in college, although majoring in English and Math, she spent most of her spare time in the art studio and theatre departments. She provided illustrations and cover art for the college yearbook and literary magazine for three years. After graduating, she did theatre set designs and program illustrations in North Carolina, Virginia, and California.
She studied portraiture with John Howard Sanden in New York, and she has worked in sculpture with Lou Cohen, Ron Young, and Steve Werlick and plein air painting with John Eagle, Mark Kerkoff, and Ken Auster.
Her sculptures are simultaneously geometric and organic, structured and free flowing and her paintings range from the precision of formal portraiture to the energy and freedom of impressionism and expressionism and may be found at Artists Eye, AvantGarden Gallery, Showcase Gallery, and OCFA Artist's Studios at South Coast Plaza Village.
